This past weekend I had to replace the water pump on my 2000 Ranger. To do it I removed the alternator, alternator bracket, fan & fan shroud then replaced the water pump. Then I reinstalled everything I removed, this morning when I started the truck I noticed the battery symbol in the cluster is on, but the gauge shows it is charging. I have a 7 mile drive to work & when I got there when I shut off the truck it started right back up & started fine when I left work to come home. Could it be something I did not hook up right & why is the light on but the gauge shows it is charging?. Right now it is raining so I can not check anything.

You need to confirm it is charging with a volt meter. Battery 12.6V then when it is running about 14V.

If that works and the light is still on I have a complete wiring diagram for the 2000

I found what the problem was, when I reinstalled the alternator & hooked up the wiring the small gray plug was not pushed all the way into the alternator. Once I did that the light went out.
