New guy from Texas. Bought an '09 ranger, 4cylinder, stick, extended cab. Started doing some crazy things. Check engine light comes on, odometer goes blank, gauges quit working, idiot lights flash intermittently. Drive a ways and check engine light goes off, idiot lights quit flashing, gauges work and odometer works. Drive a little further, check engine light comes on, gauges quit working, odometer quits, idiot lights flash. Keeps repeating this cycle. Yesterday, went to start truck, no crank, no start and anti theft light flashed rapidly when I turned the key to start. Tried again about an hour later and truck started, no warning lights lit up. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Truck has 70,657 miles. Thanks in advance.

Well right now we would have to guess, it sounds to me like there is a really bad connection somewhere or corrosion at a major connector like the ECU plug or one of many other places.

Let's get some history please. By "started to" how long have you known something was a little out of place?

Has it gotten progressively worse or did it start all of the sudden and stays at about the same level?

To the best of your knowledge has the truck been in an accident and if so what side was it hit from?

Has it been involved in a flood, heavy rain with the hood up, splashing major puddles frequently?

Has there been a fire of some sort or a cat overloading till it was glowing red or an exhaust leak that went a while without being repaired?
