I'm looking to get the battery cover for my 98 2.5. It's corroding some wires that are right behind the battery. I don't see the original battery cover still available. I was just wondering was the later Ranger battery cover similar. They were all probably 58 or 59 series batteries?

I don't remember an entire battery cover... are you talking about the red plastic cover for the positive terminal or perhaps the black nub with the M6 screw that holds the battery to the tray or.....

I think he's talking about the fabric battery blanket correct?

98-11 Rangers are similar

I don't think I have ever seen one. What are they for?

Yeah I even remember it when it was new. I've had mine since it was new in 1998. Still got the window sticker. It had a fiberglass or cotton filled battery blanket around it. Ford calls it a heat shield. Probably helps a little but not tremendously. I figured it might be worth adding if I can find one. I think the one I just ordered was for a 2004 Ford Ranger. It should fit. It's the same battery and the same hold down so it has the cut out for the hold down block. It was only $20 so I gave it a try. The 98-2001 are all discontinued.
