Well I guess this isn't really considered suspension. But it appears at some point in the near future I'll need to replace my rack and pinion. It's leaking pretty good. It's the original with 381,000 miles on it. I was wondering if anyone made the boot that covers the steering shaft to rack coupling? It appears that it is broken on every Ranger. I can't find a source for it but mine is torn and I see thats where it's wet. It's not the rack boots it's at the end of the steering shaft. Should this be an expensive job to get done? I don't know if I want to attempt this job at home.

You might have to go to a Ford Dealership to get a part like that new.

There has to be something that could be used that is a little more durable. Out of the 6 rangers I have laid my hands on in the past 2 years... 5 of them are split and the 6th was completely missing.

AFAIK, that boot is not available separately and any used one is probably already torn or crispy and ready to frag.

A new assembly includes the telescoping shaft, u-joint and boot. About $300~400 online. I lucked into an NOS part for $160 on eBay. They do come up once in a while.

Not very difficult to R&R, IMO.
