Is this a 4406, he says it is off a 99 F250 super duty.

If it is, is it the same bolt pattern for the 4R70W?

looks like bw 4407
Too big to fit Ranger frame
Any 5.4, 6.8 or 7.3 F250 would have e4od/4r100/4407
Only inline 6 or 4.6L truck would have the aode/4r70w/4406

yes it still uses the 6 bolt 30 spline input, it will bolt up to the 4r70w but its too big for the RBV's without frame mods, or so I have been told!
I never tried
My 97 F350 and 2000 Excursion 7.3 both use the 4407 case, its a monster

The good news is if I want a 4406 there seems to be an overflow of them on e-bay anywhere between 200 and 400 free shipping. 2 years ago I couldn't find one without removing it myself.

this must be their time
every truck has a "window" at the junk yard
During the window the parts are easy to find
Then over the next few years they will get harder to find and then eventually very rare
Cash for clunkers made the 5.0 explorer window much much smaller = sucks
