 I just inherited a Smith & Wesson 38 Special from my late father inlaw. It's Model 15-4 and looks to be really nice for a 40 year old gun. 

It's not something that I would buy.... It's kinda heavy for EDC although I really do like my wheel guns. I think this will go into Mrs. Big John's night stand.

We don't keep any revolvers in the house, safer w kids around, but I need one because they can fire less then lethal rounds (rubber bullets). This is so I can give the moose/mountain lion/bear a good warning before having to go fatality

 The S&W "K" frames were good guns. I have a blued 15-3 with the 4" barrel that was made in 1970. Get a speedloader and speedstrip for quicker reloading. Wadcutters work very well in 38's.

 We started using Buffalo Bore low flash jacketed hollow points for the home defense loads. Supposed to not blind you if you shoot in the dark. We went back and forth about wad cutter v. JHP ammo and decided the JHP had a better chance of not going through a wall.

Gotta get a couple speed loaders! Never have used the strips though. I may have to get one and try it out.

 The speedstrips I have only hold 5 bullets. They allow for fast reload of a partially shot chamber and are easily carried in a front pants pocket.

I reload so I can select a powder for a specific power range. I have had better expansion with a soft lead than JHP. I shoot it about once a year and most of the ammo I have for it I loaded up over a decade ago. All of my revolvers have become safe queens that get a yearly check-up except for the 44.
