I pretty much only use the recent posts. They used to be there on that view. Just verified, If I manually browse the forum categories, I do get the red dot.

OK I remember now it would have been a sorting nightmare to get them on recent, selected and popular since they are not in the same forum number. Next time I'm in that area I'll look at it again.
