Why is it that despite my account setting preferences NOT having this checked/enabled ("Always notify by e-mail when replies posted to topics you participated in"), I still some get email notifications?

The ones you have already subscribed to will still send, your settings will stop all new ones.

There is a link in every e-mail sent that you can use to unsubscribe from the individual things you have subscribed to as they happen. Follow the link in the e-mail and you can even unsub from topics old that you subbed to, probably by default when we first started up.

The original setting was to always send. You were probably here before we whacked that.

But.......I have never, ever, not once subscribed to any thread and in an attempt to make sure I never get notifications, I immediately disabled the notifications function in my prefs back on day one. But I still get them. Sometimes. And at random, although usually it's triggered by the first person that posts immediately after me and nobody else. Most of the time. But there's been a couple of exceptions. Why is confusing because I'd like to believe that disable means just that, 100% of the time. :-/

Agreed - it should not happen, but I notice you ARE subscribed to this topic - so you must have ticked the subscribe box on the new topic page or clicked on the subscribe link.

Hi Chris. The deal is, I never took action to subscribe to this thread (I wasn't earlier today), in fact, I didn't know I was subed until you pointed it out and then I checked my email and viola, notification. It seems to be a random thing when it happens, and I got to this page (and the others that resulted in auto subscribe) simply by starting at the home page for the forums. Also, I never use the recent topics tab. As a stopgap measure I know I *could* change my valid email address to a bogus one, but that raises new issues so I'd rather not do that if at all possible.

*By chance, have you guys imported any "features" from earlier versions of the forum software not included in this version, and then patched them in to this version?
