I agree, if you are building a high HP, high Torque motor, then a better block is a good starting place, i.e. higher deck height, thicker walled cylinders, and a heavy duty crank web... 4 bolt mains would be nice too.
I have read where the OEM Blocks with Main Bearing Saddle can go over 500 HP and still hold together... never seen one that I know of but someone wrote it... on the Web... "so it must be true"... LoL !

I seen some 347s run at the strip and they can put out the HP, a 331 pulled low 9s and I was impressed.  but I am infatuated with a 327... so the next Motor... LoL, is going to be a 327 unless we are into Hover Vehicles by then.

My  5.0L is moderate HP and Torque, and built with an SVO Block and SVO Crank with stock Stroke, and will be a DD.    Should hold together, but that doesn't mean there isn't a better CI for that little motor to grow into without making an engine that will over stuff the Ranger engine bay.
