Strokers make a lot of torque. They also produce a lot of heat. You can get a naturally aspirated, carbureted 331 to about 400 hp with 10:1 compression, a hot cam, decent headers, and headwork with bigger valves. You can get another 25-50hp with fuel injection and a tuner. To get beyond that you will step into the forced induction arena and it gets very expensive quickly.
