Lol - I drove an Austin 1100 around in the mid 70s that had a gearlever that had snapped at sometime and had been welded back together - it used to snap off again every now and again so I carried a Mole wrench to clamp onto the stub of lever to get me home again.

Why not fix it properly? they were a real sod to change the lever - meant taking out engine & front subframe ....
