The original design did not not have a FA. When they dropped them in Viet Nam the soldiers got zero training so the didn't know how to properly clean and lube them. The soldiers also were not taught to shoot with controlled burst. They went full rock and roll dumping all 20 rounds when they shot at anything. The upgrade in 69 added the FA and did away with the 20 round mag to go to a 30 round magazine. When I was at Desert Shield everybody had to carry an unloaded weapon with them everywhere. After the evening meal we would clean our weapon. I had both the M-16 and M-9 since I was a COMSEC courier. You could tell who was from my guard unit as we had the M-16 and everybody else had the M-16A3. I kept my M-16 in a plastic bag locked in the rack in the comm shelter. edited to add a space between paragraphs Last edited on Sun Jan 28th, 2018 07:35 pm by Tsquare ____________________ Tony NE ATL '04 XLT regular cab 3.slo stepside Semi retirement |
