I prefer the upper without the forward assist and the dustcover. I never needed to use a forward assist on a M-16 or any of my AR's. I have seen it used to push a 300 BLK into a .223 chamber to bulge the barrel. The problem with the dustcover is that it does not prevent any dust from coming in. With the bolt forward it does just as good a job preventing crud form getting in the receiver.
