When I pulled my bed all of the bolts were rusty. I took them over to my wirbrush wheel and knocked all of the surface rust off. I covered the threads and hit the tops of the bolts with some cold galvanize. I have a silver truck so it matched somewhat. I ran a well lubed 12m x 1.75 tap through each of the mounting holes, cleaned them with brake cleaner, and smeared the first couple of threads with anti-sieze. When the bed was dropped back on the bolts all screwed in by hand and then I step torqued them to 40 ft/lb, then 55 ft/lb, and finally at 69 ft/lb.
