A carbine in a pistol caliber is a very accurate gun. The extra barrel length stabilizes the bullet very well. With my 1911 Govt model I have a JHP that averages 1270 fps. When I put it in my AR-9 that has a 10.5" barrel it jumps up to 1540 fps. If I use a buddies 14.7" barrel it runs at 1570 fps. With a 16" barrel it is 1590fps. The 10.5" has a good increase in velocity and has the weight savings I was looking for. The 357Sig and 10mm do even better jumps in velocity with a carbine over their pistol counterparts.
