Basically they tried to make a 9mm magnum. The case length is increased so a higher powder charge can be used. The weak point is the webbing in the base of the case. The end result was a cartridge that is about 200fps faster than the +P 9mm. They are very accurate and are rarely seen in anything but a 1911 frame. They are a boutique round as the ammo is hard to find and most that shoot it reload.
