Does it have a VAF or a MAF type in your 2.3L?

Depending on that answer. You may see better power gains with less surmountable obstacles with a K&N cotton air filter element and a larger TB.

Stock throttle bodies (TB) on all EFI 2.3's was 50m/m. None are better than any other. Though with a bit of work a larger TB from Mustang GT can be fitted, they range in size from 55m/m to 80m/m. Though in the real world anything over 65m/m has limited benefits.

Airflow at the point of entry can be modified but the choke point is at the TB. There you can get more air in and on OBD 0/I EFI, if I am not mistaken has a factory tuned adjustability of a ridiculous 10% in Air/fuel of compensation that the computer handles.

Amazing that trimming that down and refining actual airflow, a tuneable or adjustable AFPR and a uncorked manifold you could lean that out and actually make a bit more power in exchange for a wee bit more heat through the cooling system which of course there are fixes and better upgrades for that.

I believe there are some options with that if NOT. I would suggest getting a second TB and seeing if a machine shop could max bore it out another 2-4mm and make a new valve door.

Between some real throttle response improvements you should see a small increase in power and the butt-dyno may even show your power curve has changed just ever slightly. An addition of a header or of course turbo options should really wake it up enough to get the rear end in any direction but straight for you.

EDIT:: if it has a vane style or VAF rather than a MAF much like the older Probe GT's, Ford Escorts, Festiva/Fiesta's, and some Mazda counter parts.. the easiest mod to do is to remove the silicone black top off of it carefully. Inside there is a flat coil spring inside, like a clockwork type. take ONE coil off. the door should be easier to push open with a LOT less resistance adding to throttle response. Also larger MAF is really only relative to flow size at WOT.

NOTE: These modifications increase air flow and THEY can cause a lean condition. Too lean of a fuel mixture can result in detonation and holes burnt in pistons in extreme cases.
