They predicted 0% accumulation Thursday night that resulted in 12" in my back yard by Saturday morning and is still there today. For people that live up north, that's barely anything. But for us here in the South, that's a big deal mainly because we don't have the infrastructure to deal with that much snow at one time. We only get snow like this once every 4-5 years. And the last time Atlanta got this much snow was back in 93.  I'm just thankful i got home and didn't get stuck on the road trying to get home like I did the Atlanta Snowmagedon of 2014. Back then, we barely got an inch, but because of how cold it was (16 was the high that day), it turned the roads into sheets of ice that no amount of driving skill was going to overcome without snow chains...and most people here just don't have them. I do now...but I didn't then. Add to that, most all our roads are pitched to run rain off. So when you slide, you slide right off the road even when the road is perfectly straight.
This time, most everybody was able to make it home because the roads were warm enough that the tires could push through the slush to get traction. But by that night, many lost power for most of the weekend as the snow just weighted down the power lines and tree limbs. I think 200k homes were without power this weekend...I don't know what the final numbers were that's just the latest I heard. Even this morning had some black ice patches that caught people by surprise. By this afternoon, all road hazards should be melted away completely and all back to normal.
As for the 89, unfortunately I'm not able to drive the 89 right now because Wednesday, I hit a deer. DS headlight assembly is completely shattered and DS front quarter is crumpled. Mechanically, it's driveable...just not legally without a working blinker. I'll hopefully have it in the body shop sometime over the holidays and back on the road sometime next year. That's the plan...we'll see how it goes.
