I get asked a couple times a week about changing the solod red 3rd brake lights with the cargo light model.
This applies to 95-11 rangers.

First, remove your old 3rdBL, 2 philips screws then gently pry off the truck.

If your connector to the 3rdBL has 3 wires going to 3 pins in the connector, you're already pre-wired. Grab yourself  cargo light, plug in & you should be good to go.

Check the connector that plugs into the 3rdBL socket. If you have 2 wires: Black & Black/Pink stripe (I think it's black/pink) you're wired for a solid red light only, but you CAN add this function.

You will need to tap the door switched power wire at your dome light & run the wire above the headliner to the 3rdBL connector. (off hand i forget the dome light door switched power wire color, but i'm sure someone will add that info soon enough)

The cargo light connectors will have 3 wires, Black = Ground (for both brake & cargo lights), Green = Brake light power & the 3rd wire (think it's black/pink stripe but i'll double check) which is cargo light power.

Once you have tapped the dome light power wire & ran it to your 3rdBL location, you'll need to use a scotchlok connector to attach this wire to the cargo lights power wire on the 3rdBL housing connector.

Once installed, your cargo lights will come on whenever your doors are open or when you roll up the dimmer module where your interior lights come on.
