So this past weekend I broke ground on a new rear bumper/tire carrier. I've been looking for a better place to put the spare tire, other than in the bed. But, I couldn't find a bumper/tire carrier that I liked and could stomach the price of. As many of you know, the after market support for the ranger is pretty weak. So, I'm gonna build my own. I've been acquiring tools and parts for a few months now, but finally pulled the trigger and ordered the steel back around thanksgiving. So I started out making a poster board template of the shape I wanted for the bumper. Then I traced this onto some 3/16 plate and cut it out. (Don't laugh at my top-of-the-line work station lol) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next, I cut 3x6x3/16 tube to match the outline of the top plate. This is gonna be the main structure of the bumper. The plan is to incorporate a 2" receiver, clevis mounts, and a pair of flush-mount LED pods into the main section of tube. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Aaaand that's as far as I got. Turns out cutting everything with an angle grinder is pretty time consuming lol Hopefully I'll make a little more progress next weekend. But, as you can see, I work outside, and the weather can be a little unfavorable this time of year up in the frigid north (Toledo lol).
