Finally done some more research. i found i did not have 12v power on pin 4 on the 10 pin connector that plugs into the right side of the transmission, the book calls this C180.

I spliced into the wire at the engine 42 pin connector, and fed it 12v directly from the battery, just for testing purposes.

truck runs better, only throws 1 code instead of 4.

P0755 "Shift Solenoid B".

will shift from 1st to 2nd, but never goes into 3rd, even starts to just free rev after that. I assume this is because I don't have a speed signal, as i haven't found a way to convert the 00 VSS signal to the OSS version the 03 ranger expects. does this seem correct?
