518k miles on a sohc Well done Mobil one is goooood stuff These engines are tough as nails as long as you care for them properly Oil changes on time and use full synthetic I only run Mobil one myself Can't wait to see it all rebuilt! Sorry I was no in here to answer your engine questions. 98-14 sohc engines all very similar there are a few small changes over the years but basically a sohc 4.0 is compatible with any other sohc 4.0 The ohv 4.0 (90-2000) is same block as the sohc 4.0 so they do share transmissions The 5r55e automatic is pretty much compatible between the ohv and sohc. The trans received a second speed sensor in 2001 so you cannot use an earlier 5r55e in a 01 or later but you can use a later 5r55e in the earlier trucks. For example I recently built a 2000 ranger w ohv 4.0 using a 5r55e from an 07
