A well tuned WRX comes close. The best sounding 4 cylinder I have ever hears. It growls not farting like a honda.
That's inherent to the H-motor design (Boxster engines) in comparison to an inline 4 cylinder. Both have their problems. ALL Subaru motors have a piston to wall clearance of 0.00 and they are inherent to wear. And you also have to figure, most people buying Honda's for "RACECAR" purposes aren't exactly chasing high end parts, let alone often in the tax bracket to even afford so. Most Honda guys from back in the day were sponsored by stickers of products they never bought, Ebay, and McDonalds dollar menu. So, the quality of parts usually matched that mentality and the fact they wanted to look/sound fast, but not put the money into the car to be fast or handle better.
1995 era Titanium Exhaust Header back, weighs 7.8lbs with muffler $1580 or EBAY like products not even decent quality Stainless Steel can of angry bees for $49 + shipping. The fact I used that as an example, probably know what I used and why. Personally I've only bought one thing ever off ebay since its existed. Will not spend money on that site.
