The main reason for a V-8, other than HP, is the sound of the V-8 can not be replicates by a V-6 or 4 cyl., no matter what you do.

And there is always the adage "I should have had a V-8" still applies !

Well, if all things were perfect, and diesel wasn't the price a gallon it is, I'd be enjoying some Cummins chatter. or Id really commit to sin itself and there would be a moderately turbo'd straight-6 which my choices and temperament of such choices ideally would sound far better and reel back a few more MPG than a V8 and all for different reasons.

Never would argue that there is very littler replacement for displacement, clearly if modding and upfit funding was equally spread across a V8, a Straight-6 Turbo, or even a 4BTA Cummins; Lets say a conservative $12-14K on engine and drive train alone.  I'd likely be fighting a slightly uphill battle in talking points.  But would champion in originality simply because a V8 just isn't my choice for whatever subconscious qualms I have.

And as far as sound?  All the 302's sound the same just about.
