I think a near 270-310hp Ranger would be nice but for my likes, not in the upper RPM ranges, and I don't believe the V8 is the complete answer either.  Some form of Turbo based inline4 would be more than sufficient if not a boosted straight 6.  I dare not get into the mentioning of weight penalties because a] the 5.0 doesn't weigh but what? 27-32lbs more than the 4.0L? b] what I would do grossly outweighs that. Hypocrite isn't my color.

An aluminum headed 302 is a little less weight the the 4.0 and 3.0 I believe.  At least that's what I've read
