You can fix that "white fuzz of death" with Mothers polish and a Mothers Powerball. I restored ArcticWolf's 10-slot wheels when he first got the truck, and they were BAD.
Just takes a little time. I used a heavy duty paint stripper to remove all the clear coat, then wet sanded with 1000 grit. After that, Mothers with the Powerball. They looked pretty darn good when I got done.
