I'm back on one of my pet projects, the 2003 Range Body on an Early Bronco Frame.
Opinions welcome... wow that could be dangerous !
I have taken a year or so to look at new vehicles, the options, the cost, Fords, Toyotas, Jeeps, and variations of each one, and have come to the conclusion that I DO NOT want to pay the $40K to $50K+ for a new truck, especially when my Ranger isnt in bad condition.
I have always had a wish to put my Ranger, single cab, steppie bed, body on an Early Bronco (EB) Frame that has been stretched to the 111.7" wheel base.
Throttle Down Customs will make a new Frame, one piece rails, mandrel bent, 2" x 4" x 5/16" Wall, Rectangular Tubing, for less than having my stock frame modified and it will be new and not all welded up and the best thing is EB suspensions will bolt up from kits.
The engine I have, the trans will be an AOD-4x-Hauler, from Proforma Tranmissions, the axles will be a 31 spline FX4-8.8, 4.56, and a 33-spline D44, 4.56, for the front that I already have, both with OX-Lockers.
Engine, of as mentioned, a 5.0L-W, an SVO Block and SVO Stock Stroke Crank, Heavy Main Bearing Webing Caps with a Saddle over all the Main bearings and longer than stock rods and custom pistons with the wrist pins raise to compensate for the longer rods. The Cam is a Competition Cams High Lift / Short Duration, made for Roller Lifters and should help develop a little more low end torque and Horse Power from the little engine.
The T/C will be an Atlas either the 4.3, I have, or maybe something newer, smaller, which might work out better.
Believe it or not and considering what I already have for parts, the project will be about half the cost of a new vehicle AND if I want to repaint, which I am thinking on - Cement Gray or Race Red, that would be extra... money for the repaint can't even guess.
So I am talking again, I have brought it up before but I have an appointment at a local Fab Shop to get an idea where they are coming from and what to expect, so it is a little closer. The Wife isnt happy, but not sure when she is with me... if ever !
