I'm just not sold on Toyotas. Period. I view them as commodity vehicles with no actual inspiration in the design. Just a tool. If I'm going to drive something, I have to like the looks of it and it has to have character. I guess that is why I drive a Ranger!
Honestly, Fiat to Bugatti they all have problems and the first one is usually the owner. If the owner doesn't take care of it, or well, there ya go.
I've had a litany of vehicles over the years, currently have 3 Toyota's - '91 4Runner, 2020 Tacoma 4x, a leased 2020 RAV4 hybrid AWD, 2 Ford Ranger's 3rd Gens '94/'93.
Regionally all vehicle brands get to claim vehicular supremacy - Me Too'ism.
Living in Detroit, always mustangs, Camaros, F-series, K-cars, Town&country, Grand prix's, Escorts then Focus's..
In SoCal tons of imports, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan's Ford trucks, Chevy trucks, Dodge trucks because everyone seems to have a business of their own or need a fullsized truck.
Nevada, specifically Vegas here. Chargers, Camaros, Nissan 350z, Mustangs, Tacoma's, Dodge Rams, Xterra's (count them -47 Yellow ones alone, NOT kidding), Jeep, Jeep, Jeep, challengers, Fseries, GM 2500+ HD, a small clique of super/exotic cars, Jeep, Jeep, did I mention Jeeps?
I personally am similar, I buy a vehicle on what I can do with it and how much fun I can have.. I guess that could be summed up as "Character" With exception of the RAV4, that just nets me 42/44+MPG
Just to be clear, I didn't say that Toyota didn't make good cars, actually, they are quite reliable based on the people I know that own them. They just aren't my "cup of tea". I too, have owned every "American" badge vehicle from 1950's to present models. Over the years, I have become a Ford guy, because I do my own repair and maintenance and I find Ford vehicles to be easier for me to work on. That may be, in part, to my earlier exposure working at Ford dealerships both as a mechanic and as a parts department manager.
