Used the best of the bumpers I had, used the slotted brackets, assembled the whole bumper with new foglights then got help from the son to put it on. Started tightening the nuts.
Slotting worked, was able to push the bumper up closer to the turn signals.
That's where the fun ended.
Was evident the driver side was too far back, which only became evident with the bumper closer to the lights. With the almost inch gap you didn't notice it.
Put almost 1/4" of fender washers between the frame and bumper mounts. While I was under there I saw the problem, evidently the truck was hit in the driver front looks like the entire frame is pushed back on that side. AC condenser pushed back, mount for that bent. I kinda knew it all along was just in denial.
The driver light assembly is tilted enough with the smaller gap it shows.
The J hooks interfere with the valence on the 2000 stock bumper assembly, can't even use them unless I chop a big section of plastic out of the new valence.
So my level of excitement for this entire project is about half what it was 2 days ago. The stock hooks will be a little lower than normal since I had to raise the bumper. What is wrong is the entire body assembly is a little high on the frame. I know what it would take to make it right and I'm not willing to get that deep would rather shift focus to one of the others.
I'm going to put the stock hooks back on, drop the bumper till the headlight assembly doesn't look as crooked, and I'm going to just drive it. Not a project any more.
