I looked for an hour and I cannot find my 2000 electrical diagrams but I assure you I do have one. Somewhere. I'm in the middle of moving also so things are somewhat in a disarray at the moment.
On the machines I used to build, any type of sensor that was shielded the ground wire only attached at one end and was open on the other. There is even a fancy name for what happens if you ground it at both which of course I have forgotten.
