When I did my fuel pump I zip-tied the lights on the bumper so I could drive it to work. I spent some time with a wire brush and rush inhibitor on the frame from the back of the cab to the bumper before I put the bed back on. I also spent some time on the bottom of the bed. I probably saved my spare tire holder from becoming useless. I ground a lot of rust out of it, lubed the mechanism, and the last time I checked it looked like I had repainted it less than a month ago. I drove it about a week with the bed off. It gave me a false sense of the 3.o having some real power. All the 3.0L needs is about 100 more HP.
