You don't have to remove the evaporator box to change the vacuum harness. It's underneath it. Removing the wheel well helps, and just drop the glovebox. When mine broke I just replaced the whole thing instead of splicing it. Explorer's have the same vacuum setup so I got one off of those. When i was done I rotated the 4 port heater control valve to move the harness farther away. Haven't had an issue since doing this about 12 years ago.
