Curiosity got the best of me. Since the old engine was on a stand I took the heads off. Can you tell which was cylinder 4?




Take a look at the felpro gasket. Almost looks like it happened before it was installed, like a dent or something. The trail you see is between a water passage and cyl. 4 supporting my original diagnosis but how it happened is a mystery.







So subtle yet so destructive. 

Good news is the heads have less than 40,000 miles and show absolutely no cracks at all. They got an oil bath for storage.




For those of you that have had to buy new heads, I priced them at around 400. So I can buy a ranger with a 4.0 and bad heads lol. 

There was a noticable gap between pistons and cylinder wall, cylinder wall looked like glass.
