I have never seen this before on a Ranger but saw it plenty on the 4.7 dodge V8, there was a 6 cyl based on that design I think it was 3.7 that did the same thing. Oil passages too small, a little sludge and BAM.

I'm sorry, you have to take it apart. I'm pretty sure you can take one valve cover off, take the rail off that holds the rockers and I bet money you will see substantial wear on the rocker or push rod.

If it doesn't do it at all when it is cold then it still might be able to be saved.

If you see no wear on the valve train then take the cover off for the timing chain and look at it.

Any way it goes, you need to get something to drive and take that one apart. Sorry for the bad news.

It only starts that after warming up. Do you think any of those bottles of cleaner or sea foam might help some of the stuff break loose? I'm only asking because I really don't want to tear down the engine again
