Doing some more parts hunting.
I decided to just replace the door panels I have, for a couple of reasons.
1. I couldn't come up with a way to plug the hole without it looking tacky or ricey.
2. The arm rest portion is leather, and I prefer the cloth style my father's 03 Edge has, which is black to start with.
3. Mine are a little damaged. Someone who didn't care as much as I do had their paws on the truck before I got it, naturally, and  therefor some little clips here and there are broken.

Hopped on car-part, but didn't find anything local. Then it sort of dawned on me to look on ebay. Figure it couldn't hurt, and sure enough, I found a beautiful pair of grey XLT door panels WITH the switches for 134 and change, shipped to my door via fedex. Yes, a pair of panels with switches and bezels oh my in the configuration I want. Sold, to the man in the camo jacket!

Now I'm hunting around for some OEM mirrors. It appears I can get brand new OEM ones from oemfordpart, to the tune of ~100 per side. Little steep, if you ask me. Well, maybe I'm just feeling stingy. Or I can get a set for ~100, used, pulled from a local "they-pull". I'm a little hesitant, as I'm worried I'll wind up with more mirrors that don't have the correct mounting style, that is the glass mounting to the motor assembly. I'm going to go ahead and buy those heated turn signal glass panels. Yeah it's 200 for that, but I think it'll be worth it.
