I used a steel fan on my '88/5.0-W conversion.
I've always thought that a mechanical fan was the best way, BUTT... electric fans have their place when needed.
The radiator I used fit under the front radiator support, it actually fit in the opening and out of the way of the front end accessories on the '93 Mustang Engine. (didn't know anything about the Explorer 5.0's front end)... four core, a little thick.

The only problem I faced, even with this special radiator, was the truck ran hotter on the Highway than around town.
It was something about too much pressure coming in from under the truck at speed, because of the lift and the removal of the air dam, and the air was having trouble getting through the radiator; fixed it by raising the rear of the hood, a poor mans Crowl Vent.
Also, I switched to a single electric fan to reduce the heat before I found out what caused the problem, had to add a LARGE capacitor to reduce radio interference (Amateur Radios), but it worked ok.

I know this isn't an '00... but it is just an interesting point for the air flow with a 5.0L.
