Also it is computer controlled no more kick down cable Yes the internals were also upgraded, I believe the first year of the 4r was 1993 or 4 in cars, the first year in the 4x4 version was 96 in the explorer I believe, and they were fully upgraded by 1998 The trans then became the 4r75 and continued to get upgraded behind the 4.6L engine.
