Funny you should ask, he has consulted on the "space elevator concept" a time or two, not sure if with nasa Not A Space Agency Never A Straight Answer LMFAO Basically concluded that the space elevator concept is a good concept but cannot be built. Forget any problems that arise from having a tether going from the ocean surface into orbit like wind storms, air traffic, etc we simply do not have material strong enough to build such a tether and hold together. Alot like elevator ropes.....did you know with modern elevator technology we have reached the limit? All modern long travel passenger elevators use cables and car/counterweight...well we cannot go much further because the cables themselves get so long the cables cannot even support themselves! This is where nano fibers, synthetic ropes, the use of rubber belts, come into play........until we can get rid of the counterweight (Not gonna happen anytime soon) we have reached the max travel. So these supertall buildings (Taipei 101, Burj Khalifa< Kingdom Tower) actually have two sometimes three elevators you have to take to go from the ground floor to the top....... A platform suspended in orbit around the earth on a tether leading to a large ship at sea, used to transport goods/satellites into space...... the idea has been tossed around in science rags since I was a kid Interesting stuff. Whenever he is published, I get to do all of the illustrations and presentations, can learn alot from Mr Fortune
