Many times you CAN remove some of the slack by adjusting the plastic nylon keeper at the bottom of the push / pull rod yes!
Other times the actual door handle needs to be fixed or replaced to remove some of the "slack"
What you want to do is get the rod adjusted so there is already tension on it when the handle is in the rest position. This way as soon as you start lifting the door handle the rod is already pressing down to release.
from the factory there are springs on the back side of the handle, they always break and come off
If the rod cannot be adjusted any further and there is still some slop consider adding some zip ties to the top where it goes inside the door handle, this can increase the tension and make the door easier to "pop"
If the plastic on the back side of the door handle is fubar then it maybe time to replace it.
I know on Explorers Dorman makes aftermarket handles that are METAL
Drill out the Two large rivets and its easy to swap, I have a large rivet gun so I can replace these, or you can use bolts/nuts
I do this to just about every truck that comes through the shop. Nobody wants to buy a truck with sloppy door handles that are half broken
