The ranger/explorer shift cable approach the transmission from the front of the vehicle Well, today it was 64 degrees and sunny; awesome day for February! I took the opportunity to venture under the truck to check some things and found that the Escape floor shifter will operate my trans the same way as the column shifter. I actually disconnected the column shift cable from the trans lever and installed the Escape cable which was connected to the floor shift unit. Worked perfectly! I will have to bend the bracket that holds the cable to the side of the trans to get it ever-so-slightly closer to the shift lever, but that shouldn't be difficult. I think the hardest part of this mod will be the console top... getting it fabricated to look decent and solid.
