Our whole house (6 people) runs off 8ea 12V lithium ion batteries in a 48V system state of the art! There are plans in the works for micro hydro power since we have so much flowing water and very little sunshine in winter.
Internet is provided through Hughes Net (satellite) and also by local cell towers (verizon)
Led lights, solar power, lithium ion batteries, satellite internet, these things allow modern homesteading to be a real alternative these days. We have given up some things like our super high speed internet where we had 5 playstations online at a time playing games...we can't do that here...at least not yet...worth it! No power outages, no power bills aside from parts and fuel, no water bills, no trash service, no cable bill, etc etc....
I would not trade this for the world! Great way to raise some kids, "back to our roots" I call it......
