Wicked cool back story!! You cannot beat that I mean you helped your dad lift this ranger when you were 9 and now its yours....I would keep it forever and build it too!
Manual valve body built 4r70w heck yes please, you should consider a floor shifter /console setup, you don't want to column shift a manual valve body would get old real fast
The wiring in your 05 is not terribly difficult because it is an 05. In 06+ they got much harder. We have a 01 sport trac downstairs that now has a 5.0 in it. I will be doing the wiring on that this week, your wiring should be just about the exact same. I will post up details.
With the manual valve body 4r70w you do not need a computer tune yet. You can add the pats from the 5.0 donor vehicle into your 05. Save the tune for when shes all up and running so your tuner can make full power from the 5.0 with the new cam and headers.

Yeah. I got lucky. It was destiny. I was doing heavier research for this swap. And as if it was given from God himself. That Explorer popped up on Marketplace I pestered the guy for days until I finally got him. He had it listed for $800.
His dad was there (family owned) and I offered $500. He took it. I signed a few documents and it was mine.
Floor shifter is the plan. Mine is the 2.3L Manual. So I have a hole in the floor already. I been eyeing a Fiberwerx Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber Center Console (Pre-runner life) and I think that may make itself into my cab, if I don't build one myself. Might hook a sub up in the new console. Who knows.
A big touchscreen radio is on the list. Pioneer makes a badass one for $179 on eBay WITH A BACKUP CAMERA so it is worth it!
Race seats are high on the list. Along with a quick release steering wheel setup (NRG makes a Hub that works on the Rangers. And Corbeau makes seat brackets.) Got my heart set on some HOT pink 4-point harnesses.
