As some of you know since the first time I drove my 2000 ranger 3.0 auto I have complained about it banging in to gears. Then I replaced the harness on the cam synch and it shifted great for one trip. Was at Kroger last night, and when I left it was shifting right. Like 3rd time ever. I started tracing the steps to see any similarities. Both times I backed out of a parking space up hill. This doesn't normally happen. So before going to work today I put it in reverse, pressed on the brake while backing up (straining the trans) AND It shifted fine all the way to work. When I left work I noticed it hitting hard again into second and third. I stopped, put it in reverse, pressed on the brake for like 5 seconds straining it in reverse... it shifted just fine the rest of the way to work. So I can get it to shift totally normal by straining it in reverse prior to driving it. ? Should I even bother putting the TC solenoid in that I bought months ago (I was convinced it was the TC solenoid by how it acted)? Does anyone have a theory what I am doing by straining in reverse that makes it work right? I'm thinking sticky ball maybe, but once it starts shifting correctly it stays that way till I shut it off and re start. I really have no idea.
