Per Ford TSB 07-01-07, MERCON has been discontinued and MERCON V is the approved replacement.

As far as fluid, the manual calls for MERCON ATF, but you can use any ATF meeting Ford specification XT-2-QDX or -DDX. It does list DEXRON III as an alternative fluid, but DO NOT allow the two to mix. Per Ford TSB 07-01-07, MERCON has been discontinued and MERCON V is the approved replacement.
