Anybody pull a camper with their Ranger? Thinking of a small pop up. What are you pulling? Did you install a brake controller? Helper springs? I should have a tow capacity of 5540 lbs. I know that's max, so the trailer needs to weigh less than that. Just curious of others experience.
If the tow capacity is 5540. Keep in mind that includes ALL payload(s), full fluids, and passengers as well; so ALL weight on/in the vehicle itself.

For the purpose of adding leafs to the leaf springs under a vehicle, there are two types of products on the market — add a leaf kits and helper springs. With add a leaf kits, the leaf or leafs are added between the pre-existing leaf springs and rebound springs at the rear axle under a truck. With helper springs, the additional springs are mounted onto the pre-existing leaf springs.

The major difference between helper springs and add a leaf lift kits is that the former offers a constant and progressive rate, whereas the latter is limited to merely a constant rate. With the progressive rate, the effects of the helper spring are activated when the truck is loaded in back. As the backload gets heavier, the rate of the helper spring progresses to accommodate the extra weight. Essentially, the helper spring increases support on an as-needed basis for the loads a driver carries on a given day.

If you have a trailer with electronic brakes, the brakes won't work without some kind of controller to send a signal from the truck to the trailer. So, if you have a trailer with electronic brakes, then you will definitely need a brake controller.

EDIT:: I would also consider starting here; HD Leaf Springs - Rockauto  Your OEM leafs should be around the 3 pack/1100lb range, these will get you to 5 pack/1750lbs setup and then you could add a spring or helper springs.
