My mother is in her 70s. Shes had 3 Hyundai elantras, all bought new. They have been good cars for her. The first one was purple( her favorite color). She couldnt quit playing bumper cars with it (her driving scares all of us). The next one was blue, but it didnt have the backup camera and navigation. So a year later she went for an oil change and came back with a new red one. Lol. This one had the back up camera and navigation.

Fast forward 11,000 miles and a broken grill and a few white stripes on the passenger side of the bumper (she cant be bothered with jokying and doesnt understand the difference in steering of a front wheel vs rear wheel).

Now she wants the CD player cause she cant get the hang of pandora, or spotify. She had an estimate to install and it was a jaw dropping $4000! So now shes thinking she should get the previous year model because it came with both.

She had her car valued at $11000 by carmax. She still owes $14000. The car she wants will probably have more miles and cost $14000 or more.

I've tried to tell her a CD player is not worth $4000. But if your going to buy another car and end up owing $4000-6000 just buy the damn CD player. I doubt her CDs are even worth $100. She drives from home to work which is 5min away and her long trip to the mall is less than 30min. How many songs can you listen to? It's not worth it, find a radio station...

Seems like such a hassle and a total waste of money for something everyone else has learned to get for free.

I've shown her the money and explained that she could take a really nice cruise or vacation with it instead, but.... crazy......
