Trying to fix an exhaust leak between the front of the cat conv & the end of the "Y" pipe.
Are the joints welded or just clamped ?

Also, you may need to remove the pipe and try resizing the "Y" Pipe and the Cat, then refit the Cat, time consuming job !

It is leaking where the flange on the front of the cat mates to the flange on the back of the "Y" pipe, it doesn't seal properly. The aftermarket does not make a "Y" pipe for the 2000 4.0 with out cats so the exhaust shop that did the work for me a couple years ago I am guessing they got an older ranger "Y" pipe & made it to fit my truck.

Why doesn't the Aftermarket, make a "Y" Pipe that fits the Ranger !   That somehow doesn't make sense, I can get exhaust systems for car made in the 60's...why not the '01.

As far as an Exhaust Shop not being able to mate two pipes together, sounds funny, that is what they do !   To me the job should have been done perfect as far as the pipe fitment... now if we are talking lousy welding, I could understand.
I worked for a basic Gas Station/Repair Garage, we had tools to fit/reshape exhaust pipes, heat and reform them, weld them up so there were NO leaks, has to be just TODAY'S Shops, if it doesn't go together out of the box then it isn't going to be right no matter what they do.

Funny thing, I will regret saying this, I can not remember ever doing any exhaust work on my truck since I have owned it... 10 years or so !
I know it was garaged with the first owner, I was the second and garaged it for a while but needed the space for the Jeep Project, so The EDGE spent part of its life outside in MA, but the last 5.5 years have been in SoCal, sticky mud but no snow or salt !
I am thinking I need to get under there and take a look.
I had a mechanic do the brakes, and there was a statement that everything was rusted underneath of the truck but I haven't had any major problems, other than the Rear Spring Perches, funny !
