Cutting, welding, measuring 5000 times, drilling, turning down bolts on a lathe, etc. Plus the headrest area of the seat back is thicker on the extended cab seats, which leaves you less room in the standard cab. I'm not 100% on the 2000 model year seats without seeing a picture. My swap was done using 2004 extended cab seats and putting them in to a 2001 standard cab.
