I don't understand why nobody can design a decent CVT. Mini bikes, go karts and snowmobiles have used them for years. Had the honda version in a '14 civic, was great for power but sucked the fuel mileage right out of it.
What do you want out of your CVT?  I get that your experience in that vehicle was that the mileage was lacking.  I can't remember the car, but I drove a CVT.  Worked fine.  The story I heard was that Americans in general were unaccepting of the technology as they wanted to be able to 'feel the shifts' so CVT's never sold well.  It is purely anecdotal, just something i remember hearing at the time.
