Have you gone under the truck to test things out? With the front end up on jackstands and truck in 2wd you can try to spin the front d shaft, now you can see what the front diff working sending the power to the axle with the least resistance (open diff) Put the t case in 4wd and you should no longer be able to spin the front shaft, it should be locked up with the rear. Put it back in 2wd and try to spin the axle shafts (behind each front wheel), does the hub grab the axle shaft and lock it to the wheel? With auto hubs it should.
